This ‘asda be good news.
I don’t usually get excited about supermarket shopping but this week’s trip to Asda was an exception. My usual trip down the ‘free from’ aisle took much longer than normal. I suspect they’ve got a new buyer in Head Office tasked with extending the ‘health foods’ section, either that or someone’s related to Ella Woodward (of Deliciously Ella fame).
It was only a couple of years ago that when I asked 3 different members of Asda staff where I would find the tahini, I was repeatedly met with blank looks and left the store empty handed (it turned out they DID stock it, their staff just weren’t aware). So now, not only do they have tahini, lentils, quinoa, chia seeds, cocao powder, a gluten free section and a great non dairy milk choice, they stock all of this too. Stunning selection. Their raw, extra virgin coconut oil is less than half the price of the popular branded ‘Lucy Bee’ coconut oil and is great. This is going to save me trips to Infinity, Taj and ordering stuff online – they’ve even got wheatgrass powder, spirulina and all of those sorts of things (Macca powder, Lacuma – seriously, I still can’t quite believe it myself). They’ve also got the black bean pasta (ingredients: black beans, water) and edaname bean pasta which are SO good.
Ironically, before I took this picture, I moved a discarded jar of Asda Salmon Paste, which made me giggle. Looking on the bright side, at least it had been discarded. Here’s hoping this new range is a permanent addition; it’s certainly a huge step in the right direction; well done Asda.
